33 Police Personnel Attacked by Violent Protesters at Chandigarh Mohali Border

On Wednesday, a group of 33 police personnel, seven of them women, were attacked by violent protesters at the Chandigarh Mohali border. The altercation arose when the police prevented members of the protest group Qaumi Insaaf Morcha from entering Chandigarh, where they had planned to meet Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

According to police reports, the protesters were seeking the release of Sikh prisoners who had completed their jail terms and had planned to meet Mann to raise the issue. However, their attempts were met with resistance from the police, which led to a violent confrontation.

The protesters allegedly attacked the police with rods, swords, and other sharp-edged weapons, leading the police to respond with a lathicharge and water cannons. The protesters then went on to vandalize a police vehicle and mount their flags on it.

Separate FIRs have been filed against the organizers of the protest, and charges of attempt to murder, rioting, and assault on public servants have been framed. However, as of Friday afternoon, no arrests had been made by either the Chandigarh or Mohali police.

The Qaumi Insaaf Morcha had started their sit-in protest on the Chandigarh-Punjab border in Mohali on January 7th, and the recent violence has raised concerns about the safety of both police personnel and the protesters. The situation remains tense, and authorities are investigating the incident and monitoring the situation to ensure that it does not escalate further.

This attack on police personnel is a matter of concern and highlights the need for peaceful and lawful means of protest and the importance of respecting the rule of law. The authorities must investigate the matter thoroughly and bring the perpetrators to justice, while ensuring the safety and security of all individuals involved.
