Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir - A militant was killed and another one was likely injured in an ongoing gunfight in the woods of Rajouri. The encounter comes just two weeks after five men of the elite Special Forces of Army were killed in the same area. The operation is being carried out jointly by the Indian Army in coordination with JKP and CRPF.
According to Defence spokesman Lt. Colonel Devender Anand, the cordon while closing in spotted and pinned down the terrorists. In the ensuing gunbattle, one militant was killed while another one was likely wounded. Huge recoveries have been made in the operation, including one AK56, four magazines of AK, 56 rounds of AK, 1 x 9mm pistol with mag, three grenades, and one ammunition pouch.
The identity of the neutralised militant is being ascertained, said Anand. Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh along with Army Chief General Manoj Pandey will visit Rajouri today to assess the ground situation where troops have launched a massive operation after killing 10 army personnel in the past two weeks.
Officials said that Singh and Pandey are likely to chair a high-level security meeting in Jammu before flying back to Delhi. Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi reached Rajouri early morning to review the ongoing operation. He was briefed on all aspects of the operation by ground commanders.
The security forces have intensified their operations in the area following the killing of five Indian soldiers by militants on April 30. This recent incident has once again highlighted the security challenges faced by the Indian security forces in the region. The army has vowed to eliminate all militants from the area and restore peace and order.
